... was the first national secretaries day.
this guy --->
Charles Sawyer who was the National Secretary of Commerce for Harry Truman proclaimed the first WEEK of June as Secretary Appreciation Week.
He thought a lot of himself as a Secretary me thinks. I wonder what type of flowers he got?
Good for him I say.
Historically the term secretary comes from Latin secretarius or keeper of secrets. (before blogging obviously)
In the 1870 this guy Sir Isaac Pitman launched a secretary school.
for men only.
Eventually women werepermitted to learn the arts.
It wasn't long after that door was wedged open that it became one of only a few professional careers geared directly to women....
**
Some.. *ahem* chose to combine two of these now ancient professions...
Not sure this was
exactly whatNellie McClung had in mind...
Perhaps it was this image that led to the mid 1900 movement of introducing the separation of the term 'secretary' and applying the new term 'administrative assistant'.
Today if you call someone (here on campus at least) asecretary you would have your face chewed off by a tribe of wild pygmy elephants.
... That brings us back to National Secretary Day.
Or National Administrative Assistant Day...
Or National Staff Appreciation Day Week.
That's this week here inCanada.
This morning we all received Potted orchids. Mine is purple. I think I ♥ it. I hope I don't kill it.
Then we were all taken to lunch to a swankie fancy restaurant.
I had lamb.
... so good.
I'm still stuffed and a little fuzzy headed from the wine.
It was all good though I can't say I got a lot done today.
Regardless... HAPPY STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!
