In Print...

Remember a little while ago I posted an article about 3D printing?  I mentioned how we have two of them on campus?  One of them is actually in our department. I know we rock.

ANYway...  today I finally got to play with it. I came away with a real live working ... lego brick.

It was fun.

I also trapped and released a bat that had our lab assistant trapped in the lab.

It was scary.

Then we all ended the day with a frozen yogurt CAKE.. mmmm...

It was yum.

That's it for today..

  2. It was cool to watch too.. because they were plastic it took awhile to do, but it was pretty neat to watch.

I can totally see it becoming a household item in the future.. with rubbermaid and tupperware going out of business as we toss in our old plastic containers into one end to remelt and make new ones designed for a specific task. opens up a whole new world of recycling possiblities.

Ours is set up for plastics, but that's the material that it is 'fed' you can also do ceramics, metals and FOAM... can you imagine making your own NERF toys???

  3. OMG. A 3D printer would be freaking amazing.

Bats are good because they eat mosquito's. There probably weren't any in your building though.

    CAKE!!!!!!

  4. How cool is that? You could make all your own household stuff, like you said. It would reduce the landfill bulk major!

  5. I know! the melting vat would have to 'restring' the plastic to feed it back to the printer but I see no reason why that would be a major hold up.
